P-WEC Initiates the Formation of Teacher Forum for Environmental Education in Malang City

In order to stimulate the application of environmental education at schools, Petungsewu Wildlife Education Center (P-WEC) held a capacity building workshop for teachers on environmental education. The workshop held in P-WEC center which is situated on the foothills of Kawi Mountain featured Suryo WP, a pioneer of environmental education in Indonesia, and Ir. Asih Siswanti, Environment Agency of Malang City.

The workshop organized by P-WEC and Education Department of Malang City on 6 October 2012, was intended to increase the knowledge and understanding as well as to develop a common perception on environment issues in order to better achieve the green school initiatives. Apart from that, the workshop also aimed to strengthen the network and communication among environment education teachers in Malang City.

The event attended by 28 senior and vocational high school teachers in Malang City resulted the formation of Teacher Forum for Environmental Education (abbreviated as FGLH). For the first period of 2012 - 2013, the forum will be chaired by Dra. Tipuk Ujianti I, M.Pd, a biology teacher of SAMN 10, a senior high school in Malang City. Ms. Ujianti has many experiences in teaching environmental education. Her commitment has made SMAN 10 achieve the Independent Green School award.

Qodirul Aini, project manager of P-WEC, stated, "We welcome the formation of FGPLH so that the teachers will make better communications with other environmental education teachers and increase the capacity in environmental education teaching. " P-WEC also stated its commitment to formally develop the environmental education at schools.
