Training of Plastic Waste Recycling for Villagers in Commemorating the Earth Day

Petungsewu Wildlife Education Center (P-WEC) commemorated the Earth Day on 22 April by holding a training of plastic waste recycling for the villagers of the villages nearby the center. Attended by 70 housewives coming from Kucur, Petungsewu, Selokerto, and Tegalweru Villages; the keynote speakers were Mr. and Mrs. Samsul; who go by one name like most Indonesians. The couples are environmental activists and artists.

In the one day training, the participants learned how to recycle the domestic plastic waste into useful products like bags, purses, lamp covers, interior accessories, and many more. They were excited following the training because they thought the activities could give solution to the plastic wastes in their houses.

Plastic wastes have become not only environmental but also social problems because it takes hundreds years to decompose. Ironically, many people throw them into the river. By recycling the plastic wastes into useful and valuable products, it can reduce plastic wastes. In the training, P-WEC invited the attendants to reduce the use of plastic bags for shopping.
