Discussion on Media Roles in Wildlife Conservation

Media roles in wildlife conservation could support wildlife conservation efforts or, on the other hand, oppose the works. This was the conclusion of the discussion on Media Roles in Wildlife Conservation held on ProFauna's education center called Petungsewu Wildlife Education Center (P-WEC) on Tuesday, 23rd October 2012. Eko Widianto, head of the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) Malang as one of the keynote speakers stated, "A journalist should have knowledge of wildlife conservation to write or publish news articles that support wildlife conservation".

Iksan, goes by one name, a journalist of Surya Daily gave a comment, "We, as journalists, need regular training of wildlife conservation because we are lack of the knowledge." Iksan's comment was responded positively by Rosek Nursahid, Head of ProFauna Indonesia, who was the other speaker of the discussion. Nursahid stated, "ProFauna Indonesia is very open to our friend journalists to share information and knowledge of wildlife conservation".

The discussion was also attended by some journalists, ProFauna Indonesia activists, and management team of Harris Hotel & Conventions Malang. The last team attended the discussion because the event coincided the signing of agreement letter between Harris Hotel & Conventions Malang and ProFauna Indonesia to work together for wildlife conservation in Indonesia.
